Here you are, in the heart of the Spanish world, and you really crave a conversation in Spanish, hearing local tales, getting inside information... yet at times you'll be saying something in Spanish and you see either a blank stare or that ubiquitous polite smile. Then they address you in Sanskrit.

You begin to wonder about the nature and properties of that tereré you had earlier on...

You grab your pocket dictionary and your notebook to write, in keywords, what you wanted to convey. You show them the message.

"Ahh! Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah!" they say to you, genuinely excited to have understood you and glad to have the information you seek. When they see that despite your smile, you didn't get what they said, they offer to write it down. You read it and understand immediately, thanking them profusely. "¡Gracias, muchas gracias!"

Later that day you facebook about the conversation you had with locals IN SPANISH!

Even if it sounded like Sanskrit.
